Globalisation/Internationalisation
At the beginning we were asked about the differences between Globalisation and Internationalisation. It was not easy to discuss the words in our group. My first thought was that Globalisation influences the whole world and Internationalisation is an interacting between different countries. In addition to this, the key words melting pot and mosaic came into my mind. To me a melting pot is the mixture of different cultures to a new common culture. The term mosaic describes the communication between different and independent cultures.
In our group we are of the opinion that the Erasmus program is a good example for Internationalisation because students from a lot of different places study and work together. We come from different countries with a different school system but we have the same aim-to become a teacher. Furthermore, the new country, the unknown language and the unfamiliar behaviour of the inhabitants give us a feeling of togetherness. We use the world language to communicate and learn plenty of the other nations. That experiences will help us to be a more open minded teacher.
How can you go global in schools and learning environments for children and youth today?
It´s very important for a teacher to teach the pupils to become a Global citizen of tomorrow. For being an open minded person it is also necessary to know your own culture. You have to know were you are and why you behave or react how do you react. I´m of the opinion that to know the own cultur helps a lot to understand other foreign nations. In addition to this, the children should learn to handle respectful and impartial with each other. Moreover, they should be not afraid to ask questions.
As a teacher you should support the international education with some projects:
• The children can read fairy tales from different countries and discuss them.
• In the subject music you can also sing international songs.
• By common cooking an international meal the pupils will learn a lot of about the different food.
• Another possibility is to create your classroom interesting and international. Then there will come people and ask questions about it. Communication is the best way to get to know new people.
• Furthermore, you can involve the parents. International parents could come to school and tell something about their countries.
• I also like the idea to communicate with other schools by writing e-mails. It´s a fast and easy way to get in contact with international classes.
